According to media reports, FSE is said to be strengthening its security policies. The policies stem from two shootings, among other violence, over the past month of which one resulted in the shooting death of a 23 year old by a 16 year old on June 19th, 2022.
The expanded security measures and rules include: Metal detectors, bag checks, and a curfew for those under 21 years old. Photos of signs included restrictions on weapons, strollers, coolers, full face masks (like Halloween/maquarade type masks), wearing of gang colors, metal/glass bottles, etc.
The measures also include increased security and law enforcement presence during these times.
In a quote to the Las Vegas RJ, Capt. Hector Cintron of LVMPD's Downtown Area Command (DTAC) stated that there have been 45 reported aggraveted assaults in the area surrounding, and including, the Fremont Street Experience, of which five reported use of a firearm during the assault so far in this year. He compared this to 27 by this same time in 2021. He also stated robberies increased from 14 this time last year to 20 sa far this year.
According to reports, the expanded security and rules are not exactly new as they were usually only in place during First Friday events but will now take effect every weekend from 8pm to 5am Friday-Sunday and on major holidays.
We have reached out to FSE Management for further details and comment and will update this story if we get a response back to several questions and concerns we asked about.
